Tell us a little bit about your business…
Flash Co. is a high end photo booth rental company. We pride ourselves in delivering outstanding customer service, a premium product and a great experience for our clients and their guests. We are wedding photographers based out of Calgary and we were so disappointed with the photo booth offering we were seeing at events. We saw too many booths with poor lighting, slow photo printing, cheap props and poor customer service. We wanted to offer something more to the market. We designed our business with quality, experience and service in mind. Our photo booth is 100% socially integrated, prints photos within seconds, has a touch screen interface and can be set up in literally any space. It looks good. It works perfectly every time. Most importantly, it’s usually the life of the party at any event. We have clients call us all the time and rave about how much fun they had in our photo booth. That’s really why we do this.
What are you known for?
Our props are hilarious. If it makes us LOL the first time we see it, it’s going in our prop kit. We recently just added a Donal Trump mask to our repertoire. It’s hideous but it’s going to be a bit hit. It’s really the props that make the booth so much fun. The more outlandish and silly the props are, the more creative people get. We have so many people lose their mind in the booth because of how silly it can get. We love it when that happens. We recently started hand making our backdrops. Our “Tulle Legit to Quit” backdrop was really fun to make. It took me three days to hand cut and stitch all the pieces together. But, it’s our most popular backdrop.
What do you like the most about the event industry?
When we used to work 9-5 jobs, the most exciting thing that would happen in a day would be getting to the bottom of your inbox. Now, we get to deliver fun on a weekly basis to people who just want to relax and unwind with their friends and family. If we can make someone laugh and forget about the stresses of life, I think we’ve done our job. When you think about it, that’s kind of rewarding.
What have others said about your business?
People love our props. They usually make a comment about how awesome they were. A recent Google+ review that came in mentioned the fact that we are also wedding photographers, so the picture quality is top notch. We also try to respond to emails within 1-2 hours when possible. We want to make sure our clients are taken care of from the very first email to delivery of our final product. We often have people comment on how quickly we respond.
What makes your business unique?
It’s so easy to just have a transactional interaction when you make purchases these days. We shop from home, communicate from the keyboards of our computers … even order our groceries online. The convenience is nice but sometimes our interaction with businesses seems so automated. We try to reach out and talk to each of our clients on the phone when they inquire with us. We want people to know there is someone looking after them at the other end of the line. Our photo booth attendants also come dressed appropriately to each event. From weddings to Christmas parties to corporate functions. We want our staff to blend in and look every bit as sophisticated as the guests at an event. So we really go the extra mile to deliver that personalized experience for each person who books a photo booth. I don’t think every photo booth company operates that way.
Can you tell us a time when you knew you were in the right industry?
The community in the events industry is pretty amazing. A rising tide lifts all vessels and I think our industry really takes that to heart. The corporate world isn’t always like that. So, it’s nice to feel like we are part of something. Being wedding photographers and photo booth owners we get to be involved in some pretty special life events. We’ve been to weddings, birthday parties, anniversary parties, live music events, stampede parties … you name it, we’ve been there. Our jobs are literally to make people laugh on camera, so that’s pretty special. It just feels good. Getting up for work in the morning feels natural. We don’t have to force it.
What do you usually tell people before an event?
Get as many people in the booth as possible! Our current record is 18 at one time. I think they took the human pyramid approach. If we can beat that there will be a prize involved. We promise.
If you were stranded on an Island and could only bring one item, what would it be?
Honestly? A puppy. At least I’d have company. Who needs food and fresh water when you have a puppy?
Why did you join Event Core?
Event core is a place where people come together. The philosophy of power in partnerships resonated with us, so it just made sense. Connecting with like minded business owners is a great way to grow. Many of us work from home, alone, in our PJ’s most of the time. Event Core offered a place for us to get together. A place to meet, network and get involved. Event Core also has some of the industry’s brightest leaders at the helm. Why wouldn’t you want to rub elbows with the best and brightest? It’s kind of cool to be part of something at it’s inception too. A chance to make your own mark. It’s exciting.
